Hi, I’m Anja. My family and friends call me Nanna. I grew up in a town called Bellville. It was weird. I now live in Mowbray, Cape Town. I really like it here.

I completed my Bachelor’s and Honours in Visual Communications at the University of Stellenbosch, after which I worked as a medical secretary in London, and a designer in advertising in Johannesburg. I’ve always been really fascinated by the intersection of culture and technology, so I decided to go back to school in 2011. I completed my Masters degree in Media studies under the guidance of my sensei, Prof Marion Walton.

I started my PhD in 2012 with Prof Walton and Prof Gary Marsden. Gary was my hero. He tragically passed away in December 2013. He ran the Center for ICT4D at the University of Cape Town, where I continue research inspired by his legacy. I look at creative tools, particularly those on mobile, in democratising design capabilities among the 99% (of students who don’t have art at school). My research is fully funded by Microsoft/Nokia Research. See everything that I currently do HERE.

You can contact me at anjaventer@gmail.com

(I am currently in thesis-writing-despair mode: only contact me if you have very exciting projects are justified in distracting me from completing my doctorate)

Fanmail: Hi Anja.

Ek glo die breër samelewing smiles upon you with much thanks.
    Big up!
    Renie

      Hi Reni!
Ek sien nou eers hierdie comment!
